These devices allow users to incorporate RS-485 communications within Modbus or other network protocols circumventing the distance limits of RS-485 by repeating and/or isolating signals where necessary.
In addition to solving the issue of cabling, these devices allow for a flexible and transparent implementation of remote I/O architectures by enabling remote data collection using LAN networks. Furthermore, they provide isolation between field instruments and PCs/PLC/DCS preventing damage from stray electric currents.
